Godless Perverts Social Club

March 3, 2015 by Godless Perverts

Join us at Wicked Grounds, San Francisco’s renowned BDSM-themed coffee house for an evening of conversation and socializing. Community is one of the reasons we started Godless Perverts. There are few enough places to land when you decide that you’re an atheist; far fewer if you’re also LGBT, queer, kinky, poly, trans, or are just interested in sexuality. All orientations, genders, and kinks (or lack thereof) welcome. There’s no admission, but we ask that you buy food and drink at the counter, or make a donation to the venue.

Monthly: Every first Tuesday at Wicked Grounds.

The event is free, but we strongly request that all attendees buy food and drinks from the café, who are extremely generous with their space.

About Godless Perverts Events:

Our events and media productions present depictions, explorations, and celebrations of godless sexualities — including positive, traumatic, and complex experiences — focusing on the intersections of sexuality with atheism, materialism, skepticism, and science, as well as critical, questioning, mocking, or blasphemous views of sex and religion.

Godless Perverts is committed to feminism, diversity, inclusivity, and social justice. We seek to create safe and welcoming environments for all non-believers and believing allies who are respectful of the mission, and are committed to taking positive action to achieve this.

Please let the moderators or other people in charge of any event know if you encounter harassment, racism, misogyny, transphobia, or other problems at our events.

Godless Perverts Social Club: Building Consent Culture

February 19, 2015 by Godless Perverts

What would a consent culture look like? How are we, as a community, getting it right, and how are we getting it wrong? Kitty Stryker asks questions about what consent means, from a legal and ethical standpoint, and how we can practically encourage it in our everyday lives.

Kitty Stryker is the co-editor of ConsentCulture.com, where she discusses alternatives to rape culture and explores how consent works under capitalistic patriarchy.

Godless Perverts Social Club: Asexuality 101+

January 15, 2015 by Godless Perverts

Asexuality is an oft-misunderstood identity, filled with all sorts of shades of grey. To help shine a little light on this underrepresented community, we’ve brought in Maggs, a local asexual-identifying person to lead a discussion. Expect an Asexuality 101, including some commonly-used terms and a little bit of the speaker’s own personal experiences navigating a sexual world.

Maggs is a queer student/writer who intends to be a science communicator one day. Currently, she’s working on getting back to being a full-time student and finding enough work to live on. Approach her carefully, she’s probably more afraid of you than you are of her.

Godless Perverts Social Club: Sex and Secular Mindfulness

December 18, 2014 by Godless Perverts

For December’s Topical Thursday, the Godless Perverts Social Club is going to discuss secular meditation and sexuality.

Meditation and mindfulness techniques have been taught in religious settings for thousands of years. But
now they’re being researched and taught in entirely secular, evidence-based settings. How can meditation and mindfulness work for atheists? And how can these techniques and philosophies be applied to sex?

Greta Christina will be moderating the discussion.

Godless Perverts Holiday Fun Time

December 13, 2014 by Godless Perverts

Who says that the holidays are only for the believers? Just as families don’t stop giving presents after the kids realize that Santa is a fake, the godless can have a great time during the holidays even without any gods, deities, angels, or spirits watching over them. And Godless Perverts Holiday Fun Time at the Center for Sex and Culture is just the place to do it!

Join us for:

  • Singing holiday songs that celebrate the improper, twisted, and just plain silly;
  • Hot burlesque and boylesque performances from Cinnamon Maxxine and Camryn Obscura;
  • Door prizes! Blasphemous sex toys will be provided by the good folks at Divine Interventions; Maybe you’ll be the lucky person who takes home a Jackhammer Jesus for some unholy pleasures.
  • Good eats! We’ll be having a potluck, so feel free to bring food to contribute.
  • Blasphemous costumes, sexy costumes, awesome combinations of the above, and other festive garb are encouraged, but by no means required.

Cinnamon Maxxine and Camryn Obscura

Happy godless holidays, and we look forward to seeing you all there.

November: Godless Perverts Social Clubs – Tuesday 11/4 and Thursday 11/20

November 2, 2014 by Godless Perverts Leave a Comment

Just a quick reminder as we enter the new month and try to get used to the world getting dark an hour earlier than it used to: Join us for the Godless Perverts Social Club this coming Tuesday (November 4) and Thursday, November 20.

As usual, our meetup on the First Tuesday is more or less open-form: We start out by with a simple “check-in” question that everyone’s free to answer or not as they choose, and then proceed with open discussion, moderated lightly to make sure that everyone has a chance to speak. We try to be as inclusive as possible, so any bullying, racism, sexism, transphobia, etc. will be shut down.

Third Wednesday: November 20

On the Third Thursday, we’re going to lean more towards structured events where we ask individuals to come in as guest hosts and present a topic that will be announced beforehand. We haven’t picked out this month’s topic yet, but feel free to offer suggestions via the comments or our email form.

“Recovering Your Sexuality”: A Workshop by Recovering From Religion

July 7, 2014 by Chris Hall Leave a Comment

The classic “Last Supper” poster for the 2007 Folsom Street Fair

If I had to boil down the reasons that we started Godless Perverts, they could probably all be summed up thus: religion can really fuck up your sex life. That might sound glib, but it’s deadly serious. For most of us, sex and religion are tangled up with each other from the very beginning. Many people, in order to just speak their orientation or gender for the first time, have to first figure out a way to silence the voices of the priests, clerics, and deities who told them that their very existence was a sin.

Recovering From Religion, an organization that provides support for people who have just left their religion or are thinking about it, is offering a six-week online workshop for people facing these very challenges. It starts next Monday, July 14, and is appropriately priced at $69.

Here’s what they have to say:

Sex, School, and Secularism: This Week’s Godless Perverts Social Club

June 16, 2014 by Godless Perverts

Godless Perverts: Sex, Secularism, and School

As you may remember, the monthly Social Clubs that we’ve been having at Wicked Grounds have been so successful, that we decided to go for two a month. This Thursday, June 19, represents the first time that we’re doing a twice-monthly schedule, and we’ve got a great topic:

Sex-Positivity and Secularism in Schools:
The New Frontier of Tolerance Education

We’re going to have a guest facilitator come in to lead the group on a conversation about promoting sex-positive sex education, supporting non-religious youth, ending peer-to-peer and institutionalized slut-shaming in schools, and anything else related to secularism, sexuality and education. For the record, this isn’t just about “sex education,” but a wide range of possibilities.  We hope that you can join us.

As usual, the Godless Perverts Social Club will be at Wicked Grounds, from 7pm to approximately 9 or 9:30. Admission is free, but Wicked Grounds is very hospitable with their space, and we request that you spend and tip generously at the counter. We don’t want to leave people with the idea that atheists are cheap.
